You’ve gotten into a lot of territory that I didn’t broach in the essay. I agree with you on certain points. I think once we can address and reform the policies that allow systemic racism to persist in victimizing Black people (and others to lesser extents), particularly within the justice system and education systems, we will be in a much better place to move forward. In the meantime, as we work to reform these systems, we can all certainly work as individuals to practice kindness, reconciliation, and making the most of the opportunities at our disposal.

As a former teacher, I saw the prison industrial system as the biggest perpetrator of broken Black families, so I hope you are considering that in your stance.
