I was in Teach for America too!!! I taught in North Tulsa. Some of my students’ great-grandparents were part of Black Wall Street when the massacre happened. Seeing how the education and prison system synthesize to prey on poor Black communities was life-changing. Slavery by way of incarceration is still a booming industry, and cops are incentivized to herd Black people into it like sheep to the slaughterhouse.
