Bloodless Revolution in an Age of Bloodshed?
Here’s what it will take
The world has entered a perilous era.
Wars and genocides rage across the globe. Climate change-fueled disasters and heat waves are claiming the lives of thousands. In the U.S., domestic terrorism and violence are on the rise, and unsustainable increases in the cost of living are driving unprecedented numbers of Americans onto the streets.
Facing such a mountain of catastrophes, it’s easy to see why so many people are falling into despair and depression.
Individually, what can we do to stop this carnage? How can we fight back? Through battles of wits and information on Twitter and TikTok?
It should be evident by now that social media campaigns won’t save us.
Here’s what can:
Think locally
Global issues are simply too messy and abstract to understand, with too many dynamic moving parts and players. Beyond that, regular people just don’t have power at that scale. We’re not organized.
Where each of us DO have the ability to affect decision-making is at the local level — in our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, churches, unions, city councils, etc.
